\u00ab Nous \u00e9tudions un cas tr\u00e8s inhabituel d’identit\u00e9 cellulaire<\/em> \u00bb, explique le professeur Weitzman, \u00ab dans lequel un parasite infecte les globules blancs des vaches et change compl\u00e8tement leur identit\u00e9 pour qu’ils commencent \u00e0 se r\u00e9pliquer comme des cellules canc\u00e9reuses<\/em> \u00bb. L’\u00e9quipe Weitzman \u00e9tudie ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne depuis une dizaine d’ann\u00e9es avec le soutien du Labex Who Am I?.<\/em> Ils ont d\u00e9couvert que les g\u00e8nes du parasite sont contr\u00f4l\u00e9s par un nouveau m\u00e9canisme impliquant une enzyme appel\u00e9e m\u00e9thyltransf\u00e9rase. L’enzyme aide \u00e0 d\u00e9sactiver les g\u00e8nes du parasite, ce qui conf\u00e8re au parasite la capacit\u00e9 de modifier l’identit\u00e9 de la cellule h\u00f4te.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0C’est incroyable ce que nous pouvons apprendre en \u00e9tudiant comment de simples parasites peuvent d\u00e9tourner leurs cellules h\u00f4tes<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0. La nouvelle \u00e9tude implique une collaboration entre des g\u00e9n\u00e9ticiens et des biochimistes de l’Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9 et n’aurait pas \u00e9t\u00e9 possible sans le soutien du Labex. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9 ce mois-ci dans la revue Nature Communications. L’\u00e9quipe Weitzman recherche maintenant des m\u00e9dicaments capables de bloquer l’activit\u00e9 enzymatique et qui pourraient aider \u00e0 restaurer l’identit\u00e9 de la cellule h\u00f4te.<\/p>\n
