Marianne Simon-Oikawa est professeure d\u2019\u00e9tudes japonaises \u00e0 l\u2019UFR LCAO, membre du Centre de recherche sur les civilisations de l\u2019Asie orientale (CRCAO) et du Centre d\u2019\u00e9tude de l\u2019\u00e9criture et de l\u2019image (CEEI), chercheuse associ\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019UMR Thalim (Sorbonne Nouvelle\/CNRS\/ENS) et \u00e0 l\u2019Institut fran\u00e7ais de recherche sur le Japon \u00e0 la Maison franco-japonaise (UMIFRE 19 MEAE-CNRS). Le blanc est un concept majeur dans la r\u00e9flexion sur les relations entre \u00e9criture et figure. Il renvoie, sans s\u2019y r\u00e9duire, au support sur lequel s\u2019inscrivent le texte et l\u2019image dans l\u2019espace du livre, de l\u2019estampe, de la peinture, de la paroi ou du mur.
Souvent th\u00e9oris\u00e9 en Occident comme un vide, un manque qui s\u2019oppose \u00e0 la mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 de la figure ou du signe \u00e9crit, il est aussi susceptible d\u2019assumer un r\u00f4le \u00e9nonciatif, s\u00e9mantique et plastique dont les artistes et les \u00e9crivains se sont souvent empar\u00e9s, et qui reste \u00e0 interroger. Lien constitutif entre les figures et les graphismes, s\u00e9parateur syntaxique \u2013 pause rythmique ou segmentation logique \u2013, il couvre une surface de lisibilit\u00e9 qui autorise, voire sollicite, la participation active du lecteur\/spectateur.<\/p>\n

Cet ouvrage se donne pour but d\u2019explorer la richesse conceptuelle de la notion de blanc, et la multiplicit\u00e9 des enjeux qu\u2019elle ouvre dans l\u2019\u00e9tude des formes mixtes associant figure et support. Plus qu\u2019\u00e0 ses usages culturels et \u00e0 ses codes symboliques comme couleur, il approche le blanc comme espace et forme \u00e0 interpr\u00e9ter.
