Understanding the social impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is crucial for shaping preventive policies for future crises. Prior to the pandemic, growing disparities in well-being were already undermining environmental sustainability, social cohesion, and global progress. Fragile and unequal systems were pre-existing factors that exacerbated the pandemic on a global scale.
