Lorsqu\u2019il publie en 1925 sa tr\u00e8s fameuse Lettre \u00e0 Monsieur le l\u00e9gislateur de la loi sur les stup\u00e9fiants, Antonin Artaud se d\u00e9crit
comme un \u00ab toxicomane malade \u00bb, buveur de laudanum par n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 et non par dilettantisme. Ce positionnement justifie la violence de son impr\u00e9cation : \u00ab Monsieur le l\u00e9gislateur de la loi de 1916, agr\u00e9ment\u00e9e du d\u00e9cret de juillet 1917 sur les stup\u00e9fiants, tu es un con. [\u2026] Je te souhaite que ta loi retombe sur ton p\u00e8re, ta m\u00e8re, ta femme, tes enfants, et toute ta post\u00e9rit\u00e9. Et maintenant avale ta loi. \u00bb
Dans cet ouvrage, nous interrogeons l\u2019\u00e9tonnante modernit\u00e9 de ce texte ainsi que ses paradoxes. La destin\u00e9e tumultueuse de l\u2019\u00e9crivain est r\u00e9examin\u00e9e \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re de son addiction au laudanum, mais \u00e9galement des obstacles r\u00e9glementaires auxquels il dut faire face, et des ruses qu\u2019il dut mettre en oeuvre pour se procurer, co\u00fbte que co\u00fbte, le rem\u00e8de tant convoit\u00e9.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
