Ce prix cr\u00e9\u00e9 par le comit\u00e9 national pour la m\u00e9moire et l\u2019histoire de l\u2019esclavage (CNMHE) r\u00e9compense chaque ann\u00e9e une th\u00e8se en sciences humaines et sociales portant sur l\u2019histoire de la traite, de l\u2019esclavage et des abolitions \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque coloniale ou sur ses cons\u00e9quences dans le monde actuel. Il est le seul prix qui couronne les travaux en fran\u00e7ais de\u202fchercheuses ou chercheurs sur ces th\u00e8mes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

La th\u00e8se d’Andy Cabot propose un r\u00e9cit connect\u00e9 des processus d\u2019abolitions de la traite entrepris par trois \u00e9tats (France, Grande-Bretagne et Etats-Unis) durant une p\u00e9riode de vingt ann\u00e9es entre 1791 et 1815. Le point d\u2019ancrage de l\u2019\u00e9tude se situe sur l\u2019insurrection de Saint-Domingue dont l\u2019aboutissement fut l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance de la r\u00e9publique d\u2019Ha\u00efti en 1804.
L\u2019\u00e9tude est fond\u00e9e sur les conflits politiques inter-\u00e9tatiques et intra-imp\u00e9riaux (m\u00e9tropoles-colonies) dans toute la r\u00e9gion carib\u00e9enne, et offre ainsi un visage renouvel\u00e9 de l\u2019espace concern\u00e9 : celui des espaces carib\u00e9ens et am\u00e9ricains fa\u00e7onn\u00e9s par la difficile \u2013 et, au final, incompl\u00e8te \u2013 remise en question d\u2019une \u00ab \u00e9conomie politique imp\u00e9riale de l\u2019esclavage \u00bb au cours d\u2019une p\u00e9riode autant marqu\u00e9e par les ruptures radicales envers le syst\u00e8me esclavagiste que les \u00ab contre-r\u00e9volutions \u00bb en faveur de l\u2019esclavage.<\/p>\n
