Il y a deux mille ans, le juda\u00efsme \u00e9tait en pleine expansion dans la r\u00e9gion m\u00e9diterran\u00e9enne et proche-orientale. Et c\u2019est pourtant le christianisme qui a fini par coaliser derri\u00e8re lui une grande partie du monde occidental. Comment expliquer ce succ\u00e8s ?<\/p>\n
L\u2019anthropologue des innovations Dominique Desjeux propose une solution inattendue \u00e0 cette \u00e9nigme mainte fois revisit\u00e9e. En l\u2019an 70, le Temple de J\u00e9rusalem est d\u00e9truit. Les juifs risquent de dispara\u00eetre, bien qu\u2019ils repr\u00e9sentent pr\u00e8s de 8% de la population de l\u2019Empire romain. Pour survivre, ils doivent faire un choix strat\u00e9gique, qui leur demande de trancher plusieurs controverses comme la r\u00e9surrection des morts, le pros\u00e9lytisme, la circoncision et les interdits alimentaires. Un courant propose de recentrer la pratique sur la puret\u00e9 des r\u00e8gles, qui donnera naissance au juda\u00efsme rabbinique. Un autre courant opte pour un produit religieux plus facile \u00e0 diffuser, supprime la circoncision et la cashrout, int\u00e8gre la vie \u00e9ternelle et le bapt\u00eame. Il sera exclu des synagogues. Ce sont ces innovations qui porteront le christianisme au premier rang des monoth\u00e9ismes mondiaux.<\/p>\n
