\u00ab Le drame de l\u2019Afrique, c\u2019est que l\u2019homme africain n\u2019est pas assez entr\u00e9 dans l\u2019Histoire. \u00bb Comment expliquer que, pr\u00e8s d\u2019un demi-si\u00e8cle apr\u00e8s l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance des colonies africaines de la France, le pr\u00e9sident Nicolas Sarkozy ait pu ainsi afficher, \u00e0 Dakar en 2007, son ignorance crasse de l\u2019histoire du continent ? C\u2019est que cette histoire, riche et complexe, a longtemps \u00e9t\u00e9 ignor\u00e9e des repr\u00e9sentations publiques de l\u2019ancienne m\u00e9tropole. Elle n\u2019est devenue que r\u00e9cemment accessible \u00e0 un large public, gr\u00e2ce au long combat conduit par des historiennes et des historiens, au premier rang desquels Catherine Coquery-Vidrovitch.
D\u2019o\u00f9 l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat majeur de ce livre tr\u00e8s personnel, o\u00f9 elle retrace, au fil de six d\u00e9cennies, le combat d\u2019une vie : d\u00e9couvrir et faire conna\u00eetre l\u2019importance de l\u2019histoire africaine si longtemps ni\u00e9e. Elle y relate d\u2019abord, avec pudeur et \u00e9motion, son enfance clandestine de fillette juive n\u00e9e dans une famille assimil\u00e9e de longue date : la premi\u00e8re grande aventure de sa vie, source de son insatiable curiosit\u00e9. Une exp\u00e9rience qui nourrira sa lutte constante contre le racisme. Et tout autant son long travail d\u2019enqu\u00eate sur l\u2019histoire en \u00ab terres africaines \u00bb \u00e0 partir des ann\u00e9es 1960, qu\u2019elle \u00e9voque dans des pages passionnantes donnant \u00e0 voir la dure r\u00e9alit\u00e9 de la colonisation fran\u00e7aise et ses effets toujours actuels. Une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 qu\u2019elle a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 faire conna\u00eetre par sa volont\u00e9 de fonder un cadre novateur de r\u00e9flexion au sein des universit\u00e9s fran\u00e7aises et de celles d\u2019Afrique francophone. Et par les liens qu\u2019elle a su \u00e9tablir avec les universit\u00e9s \u00e9tatsuniennes, comme avec des m\u00e9dias europ\u00e9ens enfin soucieux de faire d\u00e9couvrir au grand public l\u2019importance de l\u2019histoire africaine dans l\u2019histoire du monde.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
