Construire la g\u00e9ographie comme une \u00e9cologie humaine, tel fut le projet de Max Sorre (1880-1962). Cette biographie in\u00e9dite retrace la trajectoire de ce pionnier de la pens\u00e9e \u00e9cologique, tout \u00e0 la fois g\u00e9ographe de terrain, th\u00e9oricien et savant encyclop\u00e9diste. Par son \u0153uvre, qui s’attache aux relations entre l\u2019homme et son environnement, il s\u2019est int\u00e9ress\u00e9 \u00e0 des questions jusque l\u00e0 d\u00e9laiss\u00e9es par les sciences sociales, comme les maladies, l\u2019alimentation, le climat, les genres de vie, le rapport des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s aux v\u00e9g\u00e9taux et aux animaux, ou encore la mobilit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

L\u2019\u0153uvre de Sorre est dense, depuis sa th\u00e8se en 1913, Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es m\u00e9diterran\u00e9ennes, \u00e0 son essai de 1961 L\u2019Homme sur la Terre, en passant par Les fondements de la g\u00e9ographie humaine (1943-1952). \u00c9l\u00e8ve de Paul Vidal de La Blache, form\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cologie v\u00e9g\u00e9tale par Charles Flahault, il a travers\u00e9 de multiples sc\u00e8nes savantes\u00a0: \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 de Lille, \u00e0 la Sorbonne, au Centre universitaire m\u00e9diterran\u00e9en, \u00e0 la direction de l\u2019Enseignement primaire, au sein des r\u00e9seaux r\u00e9sistants, au Centre d\u2019\u00e9tudes sociologiques qu\u2019il dirige dans les ann\u00e9es 1950, il collabore avec des scientifiques de tous horizons, multipliant avec eux les \u00e9changes intellectuels.<\/p>\n

Le portrait bross\u00e9 dans ce livre, loin de faire l\u2019hagiographie d\u2019un classique, replace ainsi Max Sorre dans les pratiques, les discussions savantes et les controverses de son temps. D\u00e9voilant une part importante et m\u00e9connue de la tradition \u00e9cologique, dans la diversit\u00e9 de ses origines et de ses red\u00e9ploiements, cette biographie dessine une histoire collective des sciences humaines aux prises avec l\u2019environnement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
