\u00ab La terre, elle, ne ment pas. \u00bb Ces mots bien connus, valant slogan de la \u00ab R\u00e9volution nationale \u00bb, ont longtemps fait croire que les g\u00e9ographes fran\u00e7ais avaient trouv\u00e9 un terreau favorable dans le r\u00e9gime de Vichy, comme semblait le montrer sa d\u00e9cision de cr\u00e9er la licence et l’agr\u00e9gation de g\u00e9ographie. Pourtant, si certains d\u2019entre eux ont bien \u00e9t\u00e9 proches des structures issues de la d\u00e9faite fran\u00e7aise, par id\u00e9ologie, par autoritarisme institutionnel et technocratique ou encore par opportunisme, d\u2019autres \u2013 sans doute plus nombreux \u2013 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 des opposants plus ou moins d\u00e9clar\u00e9s et engag\u00e9s, parfois m\u00eame d\u2019ardents r\u00e9sistants ou des victimes de l\u2019extr\u00eame violence de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Souvent oubli\u00e9s aujourd\u2019hui, leurs parcours, t\u00e9moignant de leurs refus d\u2019accepter les id\u00e9es et la politique de l\u2019occupant et de l\u2019\u00c9tat fran\u00e7ais, m\u00e9ritent pourtant d\u2019\u00eatre mieux connus et compris.<\/p>\n

Ces cas individuels, dans leur diversit\u00e9, incarnent, chacun \u00e0 sa mani\u00e8re, une discipline alors beaucoup plus riche et active qu\u2019on ne le pense g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement, o\u00f9 le ruralisme et le r\u00e9gionalisme coexistaient avec des courants de pens\u00e9e dynamiques d\u00e9veloppant des logiques de spatialit\u00e9 et de mondialit\u00e9 \u00e9trang\u00e8res \u00e0 la pens\u00e9e vichyste ou au nazisme, o\u00f9 les id\u00e9es les plus controvers\u00e9es (comme la \u00ab g\u00e9opolitique \u00bb ou l\u2019\u00ab espace vital \u00bb) \u00e9taient discut\u00e9es voire d\u00e9construites, o\u00f9 des circulations et des r\u00e9flexions paradoxalement favoris\u00e9es par le conflit menaient vers des ailleurs et des exils int\u00e9rieurs et ext\u00e9rieurs, porteurs d\u2019une modernit\u00e9 fructueuse pour la seconde moiti\u00e9 du XXe<\/sup> si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n

Le regard nouveau que portent les auteurs r\u00e9unis dans ce volume sur cette p\u00e9riode de la g\u00e9ographie fran\u00e7aise et sur ses repr\u00e9sentants en Europe et dans le monde permet de l\u2019envisager de mani\u00e8re \u00e9quilibr\u00e9e, pour en rectifier la \u00ab l\u00e9gende noire \u00bb, et de dessiner les v\u00e9ritables lignes de force disciplinaires dans ces \u00ab ann\u00e9es de tourmente \u00bb, par l\u2019\u00e9tude d\u00e9taill\u00e9e d\u2019itin\u00e9raires personnels et collectifs et le recours \u00e0 de nombreuses archives et sources.<\/p>\n
