Francis Comets \u00e9tait depuis quarante ans un acteur majeur dans la structuration des math\u00e9matiques, notamment des probabilit\u00e9s, au sein de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Paris Diderot puis d\u2019Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9 ainsi que dans toute la communaut\u00e9 scientifique fran\u00e7aise.<\/p>\n
Ancien \u00e9l\u00e8ve de l\u2019\u00c9cole Normale sup\u00e9rieure de Saint-Cloud, Francis Comets \u00e9tait agr\u00e9g\u00e9 de Math\u00e9matiques et a soutenu en 1987 une th\u00e8se d\u2019\u00c9tat sous la direction de Robert Azencott : \u00c0 propos des syst\u00e8mes de particules en interaction sur un r\u00e9seau<\/em>.<\/p>\n Francis Comets a d\u00e9but\u00e9 sa carri\u00e8re en tant qu\u2019Assistant en Statistique \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Paris X Nanterre. Professeur de Math\u00e9matiques \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Marne-la-Vall\u00e9e \u00e0 partir de 1990, il rejoint en 1993 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Paris Diderot. Directeur, de 2014 \u00e0 2017, du Laboratoire de Probabilit\u00e9s et de Mod\u00e8les al\u00e9atoires (LPMA) dont il avait cr\u00e9\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9quipe de mod\u00e9lisation, Francis Comets a pilot\u00e9 la fusion du LPMA avec Laboratoire de Statistique Th\u00e9orique et Appliqu\u00e9e de l’Universit\u00e9 Pierre et Marie Curie (LSTA). La nouvelle structure de recherche, le Laboratoire de Probabilit\u00e9s, Statistique et Mod\u00e9lisation (LPSM) compte environs 200 membres permanents.\u00a0<\/p>\n En 2005, Francis Comets est l\u2019un des trois porteurs du projet RTRA \u201cSciences Math\u00e9matiques de Paris\u201d, projet qui a donn\u00e9 naissance \u00e0 la Fondation Sciences Math\u00e9matiques de Paris (FSMP) dont il a \u00e9t\u00e9 le directeur adjoint jusqu’en 2011. La fondation est devenue un LabEx en 2011 et est aujourd\u2019hui une structure incontournable pour la recherche en math\u00e9matiques \u00e0 Paris.<\/p>\n Ses travaux, notamment sur les processus stochastiques, la m\u00e9canique statistique et les cha\u00eenes et champs de Markov lui ont valu la reconnaissance de ses pairs.
