D\u2019origine italienne, Marina Pretolani consid\u00e9rait la France comme sa seconde patrie. Apr\u00e8s une th\u00e8se d\u00e9di\u00e9e aux maladies respiratoires dans le cadre de maladies allergiques soutenue \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Milan, elle rejoint en 1984 la France pour un stage post-doctoral \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital Antoine B\u00e9cl\u00e8re de Clamart, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque dirig\u00e9 par le Pr Jacques Benveniste.<\/p>\n

Elle rejoint ensuite l\u2019Institut Pasteur en 1986 dans l\u2019\u00e9quipe Inserm du Professeur Boris Vargaftig, consacr\u00e9e aux m\u00e9canismes de l\u2019inflammation dans l\u2019asthme. Elle y restera durant quatorze ann\u00e9es au cours desquelles elle c\u00f4toie de nombreuses personnalit\u00e9s \u00e9minentes du monde de la recherche et devient une experte internationalement reconnue de l\u2019allergie et de la r\u00e9ponse immunitaire dans le poumon.
Ressentant l\u2019envie et le besoin de se confronter de fa\u00e7on plus directe \u00e0 la pathologie humaine, elle donne un nouveau tournant \u00e0 sa carri\u00e8re en rejoignant officiellement l\u2019Inserm, suite \u00e0 sa r\u00e9ussite au concours des directeurs de recherche en 1998. Sa nouvelle aventure se d\u00e9roule dans l\u2019unit\u00e9 du Pr Michel Aubier, sur le campus hospitalier Bichat de Paris.<\/p>\n

Directrice d\u2019\u00e9quipe, puis directrice de l\u2019unit\u00e9, elle y poursuit son objectif affich\u00e9 de rapprocher sa recherche fondamentale du patient \u00e0 une recherche plus translationnelle. Elle rel\u00e8ve avec brio ce d\u00e9fi et s\u2019impose comme une experte de la physiopathologie de l\u2019asthme, d\u00e9veloppant avec le Pr Aubier le concept de remodelage bronchique. Ses travaux ont notamment permis d\u2019expliquer le mode d\u2019action des th\u00e9rapeutiques innovantes tels que la thermoplastie bronchique ou les inhibiteurs de l\u2019Interleukine-5.<\/p>\n

Reconnue pour sa rigueur et son exigence, Marina Pretolani \u00e9tait extr\u00eamement respectueuse du travail de ses collaborateurs, et notamment des ing\u00e9nieurs, techniciens et \u00e9tudiants de son \u00e9quipe. Investie dans la vie de l\u2019Inserm, elle a notamment \u00e9t\u00e9 membre, \u00e0 deux reprises, d\u2019une des commissions scientifiques sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es de l\u2019Institut, o\u00f9 elle n\u2019avait pas d\u2019\u00e9gal pour d\u00e9fendre les dossiers des candidats.
L\u2019Inserm tient \u00e0 adresser \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble de ses proches et de ses collaborateurs ses plus sinc\u00e8res condol\u00e9ances.<\/p>\n
