Atteint d\u2019un cancer, affront\u00e9 avec lucidit\u00e9, Axel Kahn s\u2019est \u00e9teint le 6 juillet 2021. Craignant de se fourvoyer vers les grandes \u00e9coles et voulant se diff\u00e9rencier de ses fr\u00e8res, il \u00e9tait venu \u00e0 la m\u00e9decine par \u00e9limination. Docteur en m\u00e9decine, sp\u00e9cialiste en h\u00e9matologie, il exer\u00e7a \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital Beaujon jusqu\u2019en 1992. Passionn\u00e9 par la recherche, Axel Kahn est recrut\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019Inserm en 1974, d\u2019abord en tant que charg\u00e9 de recherche, puis\u00a0 en tant que directeur de recherche en 1978. Il se fit conna\u00eetre pour ses travaux de recherche r\u00e9alis\u00e9s au sein de l\u2019institut de pathologie mol\u00e9culaire \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital Cochin. Ses nombreux articles, plus de 450 parus dans des revues scientifiques de premier plan, ont port\u00e9 sur des th\u00e8mes tr\u00e8s divers allant de la g\u00e9n\u00e9tique \u00e0 la biologie mol\u00e9culaire et la biochimie. En 2020, Axel Kahn devint le premier directeur du l\u2019Institut Cochin.<\/p>De 1992 \u00e0 2004, il fut membre du comit\u00e9 consultatif national d\u2019\u00e9thique o\u00f9 il se d\u00e9clara notamment hostile au clonage th\u00e9rapeutique, \u00e0 la brevetabilit\u00e9 des g\u00e8nes \u00e0 la th\u00e9orie du r\u00e9ductionnisme g\u00e9n\u00e9tique. Axel Kahn aimait d\u00e9battre et n\u2019h\u00e9sitait pas \u00e0 prendre r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement position pour exprimer ses avis. Il aimait \u00e0 vulgariser ses connaissances scientifiques. Il le faisait toujours au service du savoir, qu\u2019il soit scientifique, m\u00e9dical ou \u00e9thique. De 1988 \u00e0 1997, il fut charg\u00e9 aupr\u00e8s du minist\u00e8re de l\u2019Agriculture d\u2019\u00e9valuer les risques li\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019utilisation des plantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiquement modifi\u00e9es.<\/p>
Pr\u00e9sident de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Paris Descartes de 2007 \u00e0 2011<\/strong><\/p>En 2007 alors qu\u2019il \u00e9tait directeur de l\u2019Institut Cochin, Axel Kahn brigua la pr\u00e9sidence de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Paris Descartes en se d\u00e9clarant en faveur de la r\u00e9forme sur l\u2019autonomie des universit\u00e9s. Au cours de son mandat de pr\u00e9sident de l\u2019universit\u00e9, Axel Kahn s\u2019est employ\u00e9 \u00e0 conserver des structures de recherche fortes et \u00e0 \u00ab\u00a0r\u00e9concilier les Fran\u00e7ais avec l\u2019universit\u00e9<\/em> car l\u2019id\u00e9al d\u2019un homme qui apprend continuellement est enthousiasmant\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>. Il avait su voir les compl\u00e9mentarit\u00e9s des universit\u00e9s Descartes et Diderot et milit\u00e9 en vue de leur rapprochement et leur fusion. Atteint par la limite d\u2019\u00e2ge, son mandat prit fin en d\u00e9cembre 2011.<\/p>En 2019, il accepte de devenir le pr\u00e9sident de Ligue nationale contre le cancer.<\/p>
Au soir de sa vie, le m\u00e9decin, chercheur, \u00e9crivain, marcheur, philosophe avait tenu \u00e0 faire ses adieux lors d\u2019un entretien \u00e9mouvant sur France Inter, le 17 mai dernier. Il y d\u00e9clarait : \u00ab\u00a0Apr\u00e8s la mort, il n\u2019y a rien, mais il y a peut-\u00eatre le souvenir que vous pourrez garder de moi, et \u00e7a c\u2019est une forme d\u2019immortalit\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb. <\/em>Axel Kahn laisse derri\u00e8re lui trois enfants issus de son premier mariage et sa compagne.<\/p>La communaut\u00e9 Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9 rend hommage \u00e0 la m\u00e9moire d\u2019un homme d\u2019exception, et s\u2019associe \u00e0 la douleur de sa famille et de ses proches et leur adresse leurs plus sinc\u00e8res condol\u00e9ances.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
