z_index_tablet=\u00a0\u00bb500&Prime;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Due to its multi-disciplinary character, candidates for this Master&rsquo;s degree can have different profiles: we welcome either students with a main training in linguistics but with knowledge and interest in computer science and mathematics, or students trained in computer science but interested in linguistics and the formal organisation of languages.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Note that it is possible to enter the Master\u2019s programme with little to no knowledge of linguistics (such students will receive accelerated introductory courses in linguistics in the first semester of the M1 level) but some knowledge in computer science and in mathematics is required:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In <strong>computer science<\/strong>: students are expected to know the basics of practical computer programming, ideally in Python (namely an understanding of variables, control statements, data structures). To give you an idea of the expected level, you will find <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linguist.univ-paris-diderot.fr\/~mcandito\/divers\/m1_MLforNLP1-tp1.pdf\"><b>here<\/b><\/a> the subject of the very first lab session of the Machine Learning for NLP class (the lab session is done over two 2-hour sessions, then completed at home; some indications are given in class). To (self-)assess your ability to follow the lectures, check whether you are able to write a program that, given a directory containing several text files, prints the 5 most frequent words in all of these files.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>mathematics<\/strong>: it is desirable to have followed an introductory course in statistics and probability and to know the basics of linear algebra (vector space, dot product, matrix-vector multiplication)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In <strong>linguistics<\/strong>: the M1 is open both to students with previous knowledge in linguistics and to beginners. Tests occur during the first week of the semester to identify beginners, who will attend specific accelerated linguistics courses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These prerequisites are not \u201chard constraints\u201d, but should be interpreted as advice to avoid unfortunate academic orientations. A very good academic record and strong motivation can compensate for certain shortcomings in the pre-requisites.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on your academic record, you will be invited to an online interview in order to evaluate your skills in computer science and discuss your application.<\/p>\n<p>If you think you do not fully meet the pre-requisites, and if you speak French, consider joining at the L3 level (third year of \u00ab\u00a0Licence\u00a0\u00bb). Goldberg \"Neural Network Methods in Natural Language Processing\", Morgan & Claypool, 2017<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Algorithmique: Le programme d'algorithmique consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu \u00e0 l'entr\u00e9e en M1 comprend les notions g\u00e9n\u00e9rales de complexit\u00e9 (grand O), les tris, les structures lin\u00e9aires (piles, files), les arbres, les h-tables.<br \/>Il peut \u00eatre pertinent de commencer avec des tutoriels en ligne, par exemple (parmi bien d'autres) Algorithmique pour l'apprenti programmeur. Le manuel de Cormen (\"Algorithmique\" 3e \u00e9dition fran\u00e7aise 2010, Dunod) est l'un des meilleurs ouvrages de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence.<\/li><li>Programmation:<ul><li>On attend \u00e0 l'entr\u00e9e en M1 une capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 produire, sans mod\u00e8le, des programmes de plusieurs centaines de lignes de code dans au moins un langage, si possible python. Il est indispensable d'avoir une pratique de la programmation, d'avoir accumul\u00e9 une certaine exp\u00e9rience. Le langage le plus utilis\u00e9 dans les TPs de master est python.<\/li><li>Une fa\u00e7on d'\u00e9valuer ses comp\u00e9tences en programmation est d'utiliser le <a href=\"https:\/\/projecteuler.net\/\">projet Euler<\/a>: de petits probl\u00e8mes math\u00e9matiques dont la r\u00e9solution ne peut se faire qu'en faisant un programme dans un langage de programmation quelconque.
