Firstly, the place of \u2018Europe\u2019 in global history is understood as the study of long-distance interconnections and includes a series of approaches (connected and comparative, transnational, colonial, imperial, trans-imperial\u2026). sensibilities and the manufacture of the sensitivity to approach the societies in question. Sensibility, which here includes the study of emotions, sensory balance, ways of apprehending time and space, the construction and mutations of relationships with the direct and more distant environments of societies, has indeed often served as a test of differentiation between \u201cus\u201d and \u201cthem\u201d \u2013 around questions such as those of the refinement of morals, the pacification of societies or bodily labels. Yet these processes are found, in different forms, sometimes simultaneously in many parts of the world. This perspective invites us to revise certain in-depth conceptions forged in the era of modernity (if only the opposition between reason and emotion). In the same way, it allows us to better highlight the plurality of ways of being in the world and thus denaturalize our own \u201cimmediate\u201d perceptive impressions. We will be particularly attentive to the circulation of sensitivities and devices for the production of the sensible as a result of Western expansion and to the material and bodily effects of this expansion in Europe (effects of mobility, consumption\/appropriation of exoticisms, etc.). The study of the sensible cannot be separated from the study of social stratifications and the incorporation (or contestation) of power relations: the seminar will therefore focus on anchoring, material and spatial environments, as well as on practices, interactions and phenomena of circulation at different scales. The aim is to bring to life a certain heritage of French historiography within global studies; but also, through this double decentring, to break out of certain contemporary conceptual impasses in order to attempt to reinterrogate several of the great mutations that profoundly marked the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries under the term \u201cmodernity\u201d. l\u2019angle des sensibilit\u00e9s et de la fabrique du sensible pour aborder les soci\u00e9t\u00e9s en pr\u00e9sence. Le sensible, qui comprend ici l\u2019\u00e9tude des affects, de la balance sensorielle, les mani\u00e8res d\u2019appr\u00e9hender le temps et l\u2019espace, la construction et les mutations des rapports aux environnements directs et plus lointains des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s, a en effet souvent servi d\u2019\u00e9preuve de diff\u00e9renciation entre \u00ab nous \u00bb et \u00ab eux \u00bb - autour de questions comme celles du raffinement m\u0153urs, de la pacification des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s ou des \u00e9tiquettes corporelles. Or ces processus se retrouvent, sous des formes diff\u00e9rentes, parfois simultan\u00e9ment en de nombreuses r\u00e9gions du monde. Aussi cette perspective invite-t-elle \u00e0 r\u00e9viser en profondeur certaines conceptions forg\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e8re des modernit\u00e9s (ne serait-ce que l\u2019opposition raison\/\u00e9motion). De m\u00eame permet-elle de mieux mettre en relief la pluralit\u00e9 des mani\u00e8res d\u2019\u00eatre au monde, et ainsi de d\u00e9naturaliser nos propres impressions perceptives \u00ab imm\u00e9diates \u00bb.<\/p> Nous serons notamment particuli\u00e8rement attentifs \u00e0 la circulation des sensibilit\u00e9s et des dispositifs de production du sensible du fait de l\u2019expansion occidentale, et aux effets retours mat\u00e9riels et corporel en Europe de cette expansion (effets des mobilit\u00e9s, de la consommation\/appropriations d\u2019exotismes\u2026). L\u2019\u00e9tude du sensible ne saurait par ailleurs se d\u00e9faire de celle des stratifications sociales et de l\u2019incorporation (ou de la contestation) des rapports de pouvoir : aussi le s\u00e9minaire portera un int\u00e9r\u00eat particulier aux ancrages, aux environnements mat\u00e9riels et spatiaux, ainsi qu'aux pratiques, interactions et ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes de circulations \u00e0 diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9chelles. Il s\u2019agit de cette fa\u00e7on de faire vivre un certain h\u00e9ritage de l\u2019historiographie fran\u00e7aise au sein des \u00e9tudes globales ; mais aussi, par ce double d\u00e9centrement de
