De tous les objets du monde, le visage humain est celui que le cine\u0301ma a le plus constamment repre\u0301sente\u0301 et honore\u0301. Rien d\u2019e\u0301tonnant a\u0300 cela, le visage e\u0301tant, dans toutes les civilisations, ce par quoi nous nous pre\u0301sentons a\u0300 autrui, et ce qui fait de nous visiblement des humains en socie\u0301te\u0301. En outre, le visage e\u0301tant une surface de contact entre un exte\u0301rieur (sensible) et un inte\u0301rieur (imaginable), il incarne de\u0301ja\u0300, a\u0300 sa manie\u0300re, l\u2019essence me\u0302me du dispositif de la repre\u0301sentation en images.
Le se\u0301minaire ne sera pas une histoire du visage au cine\u0301ma, mais une tentative pour re\u0301fle\u0301chir a\u0300 neuf sur les questions particulie\u0300res que pose, a\u0300 la figuration de cet emble\u0300me de l\u2019humain, sa rencontre avec une image automate et temporalise\u0301e.
Le visage est une marque d\u2019identite\u0301 et un porteur d\u2019intensite\u0301 psychique, entre autres via le regard. Son apparence et sa mobilite\u0301 lui donnent un caracte\u0300re expressif, apte a\u0300 communiquer les affects. Il est aussi une surface, qui peut se travailler et se modifier, entre autres dans des vise\u0301es identitaires ou expressives mais pas seulement. Enfin, e\u0301tant le signe de l\u2019Homme, il est aussi le signe de sa finitude et de son rapport difficile au temps, c\u2019est-a\u0300-dire a\u0300 la mort. Dans ces quatre grandes directions, le cine\u0301ma a rencontre\u0301 des questions de repre\u0301sentation, mais aussi d\u2019ontologie et d\u2019anthropologie, auxquelles il a apporte\u0301 des solutions originales, et qui en retour l\u2019ont de\u0301fini comme me\u0301dium et comme art. C\u2019est ce que le se\u0301minaire s\u2019attachera a\u0300 explorer, a\u0300 partir de l\u2019analyse de cas choisis.<\/p>\n
