La publication devrait s\u2019achever en 2024 avec les livres V et VI.<\/p>\n<p>Consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 la myologie humaine, ce livre est <strong>le plus long et le plus complexe des sept livres <\/strong><strong>de la <em>Fabrique du corps humain<\/em><\/strong><em>, <\/em>tant par les publics auxquels il s\u2019adresse que par les choix op\u00e9r\u00e9s par Andr\u00e9 V\u00e9sale dans la pr\u00e9sentation de la mati\u00e8re. Une pr\u00e9face \u00e9crite par l\u2019auteur pr\u00e9cise que <strong>le livre s\u2019adresse aux anatomistes mais aussi aux artistes, peintres et sculpteurs<\/strong>, attach\u00e9s \u00e0 la compr\u00e9hension et \u00e0 la repr\u00e9sentation des mouvements du corps humain. L\u2019\u00e9tude des muscles s\u2019appuie sur un ensemble de<strong> seize planches plac\u00e9es en belle page au d\u00e9but du livre, <\/strong><strong>parmi les plus belles qui aient \u00e9t\u00e9 dessin\u00e9es puis grav\u00e9es sur bois<\/strong>, qui conf\u00e8rent \u00e0 l\u2019ouvrage un caract\u00e8re somptueux incontestable. Copi\u00e9s pendant plusieurs si\u00e8cles, mais encore jamais \u00e9tudi\u00e9s d\u2019un point de vue anatomique, les \u00e9corch\u00e9s de V\u00e9sale ont fait entrer le corps mort au panth\u00e9on des \u0153uvres artistiques de la Renaissance.<\/p>\n<p>La lecture des planches est guid\u00e9e par le sens de la dissection, de la peau aux muscles profonds. Comme l\u2019assistant pr\u00e9sent a\u0300 la dissection, <strong>le lecteur est invit\u00e9 \u00e0 suivre le d\u00e9roulement d\u2019une ou de plusieurs s\u00e9ances anatomiques<\/strong> et \u00e0 d\u00e9couvrir les muscles appendus \u00e0 leur insertion au fur et \u00e0 mesure qu\u2019ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 tract\u00e9s puis sectionn\u00e9s, au cours de manipulations d\u2019un ou de plusieurs cadavres.<\/p>\n<p>Un texte descriptif comprenant <strong>62 chapitres succ\u00e8de aux planches en suivant le sens de la dissection, des muscles superficiels aux muscles profonds, en vue ventrale puis dorsale.<\/strong> Les muscles sont d\u00e9crits individuellement et sont peu nomm\u00e9s. Une telle pr\u00e9sentation suppose une attention accrue de la part du spectateur, et du lecteur, puisque les muscles sont num\u00e9rot\u00e9s dans l\u2019ordre ou\u0300 ils apparaissent \u00e0 la vue, sans aucune nomenclature. L\u2019absence de d\u00e9nomination est palli\u00e9e par les p\u00e9riphrases \u00ab muscle du bras, muscle de la fesse \u00bb, qui insistent sur le rapport entre le muscle et la partie du corps qu\u2019il mobilise. La pr\u00e9sentation des muscles se fait selon un sch\u00e9ma uniforme\u00a0: l\u2019origine du muscle (indiqu\u00e9e par une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de noms et de verbes), sa terminaison (<em>insertio<\/em>, parfois <em>implantatio<\/em>), son sens (ou la direction de ses fibres).
