La BIU Sant\u00e9 M\u00e9decine, en collaboration avec la Facult\u00e9 des Lettres de Sorbonne Universit\u00e9, organise le 23 septembre 2022 une journ\u00e9e d\u2019\u00e9tude autour de son nouveau \u00ab\u00a0M\u00e9tadictionnaire m\u00e9dical multilingue\u00a0\u00bb.<\/strong> Le m\u00e9tadictionnaire am\u00e9liore la recherche parmi plus de 450 volumes de dictionnaires m\u00e9dicaux du XVIIe au XXe\u00a0si\u00e8cle, qui sont num\u00e9ris\u00e9s dans Medica<\/a>, et il permet de d\u00e9couvrir ou de red\u00e9couvrir le tr\u00e9sor lexical et scientifique qu’ils contiennent. Le projet a aussi permis d’enrichir encore le corpus. J.-C.), le plus ancien qui nous ait \u00e9t\u00e9 conserv\u00e9, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 une \u0153uvre monumentale comme les cent volumes du Dictionnaire encyclop\u00e9dique des sciences m\u00e9dicales<\/em>, publi\u00e9 \u00e0 Paris sous la direction d\u2019Am\u00e9d\u00e9e Dechambre entre 1864 et 1889, les dictionnaires de m\u00e9decine constituent l\u2019un des grands genres de la litt\u00e9rature m\u00e9dicale, et illustrent de fa\u00e7on exemplaire l\u2019\u00e9volution de cette science, ainsi que de celles qui lui sont fr\u00e9quemment associ\u00e9es dans ces ouvrages (physique, chimie, botanique, min\u00e9ralogie, pharmacie, art v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire\u2026). Mais ces dictionnaires sont \u00e9galement des t\u00e9moins de tout premier plan au sein de l\u2019histoire g\u00e9n\u00e9rale des pratiques lexicographiques et encyclop\u00e9diques<\/strong>, tandis que la porosit\u00e9 entre langue usuelle et langue technique les rend aussi tr\u00e8s utiles pour retracer l\u2019histoire du vocabulaire.<\/p>\n Lorsque la BIU\u00a0Sant\u00e9 a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 une biblioth\u00e8que num\u00e9rique<\/a> au tout d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 2000, les biblioth\u00e9caires ont d\u00e9fini presque aussit\u00f4t comme l\u2019un des chantiers prioritaires la mise \u00e0 disposition d\u2019une collection importante de dictionnaires et encyclop\u00e9dies. Quarante-neuf d\u2019entre eux, soit 331 643 pages en 453 volumes publi\u00e9s entre le d\u00e9but du XVIII\u1d49 si\u00e8cle et le d\u00e9but du XX\u1d49\u00a0si\u00e8cle, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 num\u00e9ris\u00e9s et rendus interrogeables<\/strong> gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une interface sp\u00e9cifique<\/a> qui donne acc\u00e8s aux vedettes index\u00e9es.<\/p>\n Vingt ans plus tard, la num\u00e9risation de masse des imprim\u00e9s du domaine public a chang\u00e9 les conditions de la recherche historique<\/strong>\u00a0; les techniques d’exploration des corpus ont \u00e9volu\u00e9. Ce travail pionnier sur les dictionnaires m\u00e9dicaux m\u00e9ritait d’\u00eatre approfondi. Le projet intitul\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0M\u00e9tadictionnaire m\u00e9dical multilingue de la biblioth\u00e8que num\u00e9rique Medica<\/a> \u00bb (oct. 2020 \u2013 sept. 2022), port\u00e9 par la Biblioth\u00e8que interuniversitaire de sant\u00e9 d\u2019Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9 en partenariat avec l\u2019UMR 8167 \u00ab Orient & M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e Textes Arch\u00e9ologie Histoire \u00bb (CNRS \u2013 Sorbonne Universit\u00e9) et l\u2019UMR 7118 ATILF (Analyse et Traitement Informatique de la Langue Fran\u00e7aise. CNRS \u2013 Universit\u00e9 de Lorraine), et financ\u00e9 par l\u2019infrastructure de recherche CollEx-Pers\u00e9e, a permis deux types d\u2019am\u00e9lioration.<\/p>\n D\u2019une part, le corpus a \u00e9t\u00e9 enrichi de plusieurs dictionnaires comportant des vedettes en grec et\/ou en latin<\/strong>, dont les Definitionum medicarum libri XXIIII<\/em>\u00a0de Jean de Gorris (1622), qui \u00e9largit d\u2019un si\u00e8cle la p\u00e9riode couverte par le corpus, ainsi que l\u2019avant-derni\u00e8re d\u2019une longue lign\u00e9e de r\u00e9\u00e9ditions corrig\u00e9es et augment\u00e9es du Lexicon medicum graeco-latinum<\/em> de Bartolomeo Castelli (1746). Le Medicinal Dictionary<\/em><\/a> de Robert James (1743-1745), r\u00e9dig\u00e9 en anglais, mais dont les vedettes sont en latin, et sa traduction fran\u00e7aise<\/a> par Diderot, Eidous et Toussaint (1746-1748) se r\u00e9f\u00e8rent \u00e0 ces deux ouvrages majeurs, qui \u00e9taient des lacunes dans le corpus. Est \u00e9galement ajout\u00e9e la version fran\u00e7aise abr\u00e9g\u00e9e du dictionnaire de Jean de Gorris due \u00e0 Fran\u00e7ois Thevenin (1658), qui constitue la source des d\u00e9finitions m\u00e9dicales du dictionnaire de Richelet (1680).<\/p>\n D\u2019autre part, huit dictionnaires repr\u00e9sentatifs ont fait l\u2019objet d\u2019une indexation fine destin\u00e9e \u00e0 recueillir les informations lexicologiques qu\u2019ils fournissent sur les relations entre les vedettes (synonymie, traductions en diff\u00e9rentes langues anciennes et modernes, renvois). Ainsi, la nouvelle interface, d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e \u00e0 la faveur d\u2019une restructuration profonde du mod\u00e8le de donn\u00e9es existant, donnera acc\u00e8s \u00e0 un index unifi\u00e9 des vedettes de tous les dictionnaires tout en permettant une navigation fluide au sein de cet immense corpus encyclop\u00e9dique.<\/strong> Elle sugg\u00e9rera de surcro\u00eet \u00e0 l\u2019utilisateur de nouvelles pistes de recherche, en exploitant les informations lexicologiques recueillies.<\/p>\n Au terme des deux ann\u00e9es du projet, nous r\u00e9unissons des chercheurs d\u2019horizons divers \u2013 histoire de la m\u00e9decine ou des \u00ab sciences qui s\u2019y rapportent \u00bb (selon le titre du dictionnaire de \u00c9.\u00a0Littr\u00e9 et Ch.\u00a0Robin, 13e<\/sup> \u00e9d., Paris, 1873), philologie classique, lexicologie, lexicographie, terminologie, humanit\u00e9s num\u00e9riques \u2013 qui vont se saisir de ce nouvel outil pour le mettre \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9preuve. Ces explorations crois\u00e9es mettront en lumi\u00e8re des aspects in\u00e9dits du tr\u00e9sor lexical et scientifique que renferme ce corpus, et feront na\u00eetre de nouvelles
